Will My Locked Photos Leak? How Originals Stay Private

2 min read

If you are going to put a price on your photos, you want to know a blurred image is not just a CSS filter over the real file. On Gallery Room it is not. Here is what happens to a locked photo from upload to unlock, without the marketing gloss.

Every locked photo becomes two files

On a phone, locked photos load as tiny blurred previews. The originals never reach the page.

When you upload a photo to a paid Room and leave it Gated, the original goes into a private store. Separately, Gallery Room makes a tiny, heavily blurred preview, just 48 by 48 pixels, and that small file is the only version used on public pages.

So a visitor who has not unlocked the Room is not hiding the photo behind a blur. Their browser never receives the original at all. Right-click, save, inspect: all they can get is the blurred thumbnail.

What changes after someone unlocks

  • After a visitor pays, or after you grant them free access, originals open through a signed link that lasts 5 minutes.
  • Responses that carry an original are marked so the CDN and the browser do not store them.
  • Signed links are rate limited per member, which makes bulk scraping slow.

Share cards and emails follow the same rule

The social preview card for a Room, the share images and the emails Gallery Room sends all use one rule: a locked photo is never shown sharp. It appears as its blurred preview or it is left out. Only photos you marked Free, or photos in an open Room, show in full.

Scanning, reports and takedowns

  • Every new photo and video is scanned before other people can see or buy it. Anything the scan holds goes to a review queue for an admin.
  • Any member can report a Room from the Room page, and a creator can appeal a rejection.
  • Copyright notices under the DMCA go to the Gallery Room team, who can take a file down.

Questions people ask

Is the blur just a filter over the real photo?

No. Locked pages use a separate 48 by 48 pixel blurred preview. The original stays in a private store until the visitor has access.

How long does an unlocked photo link work?

A signed link to an original lasts 5 minutes. The Room page asks for a fresh one when needed.

Can buyers screenshot unlocked photos?

Yes. No website can prevent screenshots by someone who has access. Gallery Room keeps originals away from everyone who has not unlocked the Room.
